This past weekend I made my way up to Canada to play at the Bank Nightclub just outside of Toronto on Saturday night. I wasn't sure what to expect but the club was really dope and the crowd was amazing. I got a chance to really get loose on some big room house music and they were going crazy all night! Shouts to Hennie V for the booking, DJ Drake for the tight opening set and the awesome staff for being so friendly. Big, huge shout to everyone who came out to party and make it a special night!

Sunday I made my way back down to Toronto with Nicole for the day and we did the tourist thing. We stayed downtown, ate some good food, checked out the Manifesto Hip Hop Festival, visited the CN Tower and ended the night at Time Nightclub for some dope hip-hop. In between time I even got a chance to link up with Bonics who just happened to be in town early for two sold out Wiz shows the following nights. Shouts to DJ's Wristpect & Terry Urban (who was in town playing w/ Stalley), Sir Lancelot, JD Era (introduced me to Raekwon!!) and Isaiah from the 194 Group for all the hospitality.

Monday we ended our trip with a visit to Niagara Falls. I've never been so it was an awesome experience. As usual check all the pics from the trip below!

Real Feel 2011 Mixtape Release

Three days ago I had a gang of friends, colleagues and various Pittsburgh party people come out to celebrate the release of my latest club mixtape, "Real Feel 2011" at S BAR. The Sunday before labor day is always an exceptionally good night for partying in the city. It's actually one of my favorite nights of the year and the time when I separate Summer from Fall. College students are back and Pittsburgh regains a little bit of lost energy. I started my series of Real Feel mixtapes back in '08 and this year marks the 3rd installment. I missed last year's deadline because McFly and I were busy on our "McNugget" project.

Any DJ will tell you that putting out a club mix is easier said than done, especially these days when people are exposed to so much different music at such a rapid rate. This makes it extremely hard for songs (let alone groups & artists) to have any longevity therefore making it hard to compile a proper mix that will stand the test of time. I worked on this mixtape on and off for a few months and finally knocked out the final version about a month ago.

Real Feel is a continuous live mix of different genres. It's called "Real Feel" because it's completely LIVE djing and its meant to showcase what I do in the clubs. Nowadays, most mixtapes you hear are created on the computer while someone perfects every single second staring at the screen. Sadly, we also live in a day and age where kids are buying DJ software that matches the beats for you. That is not DJing. That's a whole other blog post though. I find that I've always enjoyed live mixes much more because it shows the DJ is not always perfect and I really enjoy hearing those tiny imperfections in the mix even if the average listener would never be able to tell the difference. You'll see that some of the songs in the mix are the tracks of the moment but this is absolutely necessary when you're adding the year to the mix. I want people to go back and listen to this mix in a few years and be reminded of what they were doing in 2011. However, I also want to show my range and create something that you'll enjoy listening to over and over for a long time. The Firehouse Lounge Closes

After 7 awesome years, one of Pittsburgh's best bar establishments, The Firehouse Lounge, closed it's doors on July 31st, 2011. Firehouse was known around town for having good taste in just about every aspect of the bar business. The design was cutting edge and laid back at the same time, the drinks were top notch and forward thinking, the staff was always awesome and the DJ's were known for playing the best mix of music. Most importantly though, the crowds were always the BEST. Multi-cultured and eager to dance the night away to whatever was coming out of the speakers. I started playing at Firehouse a few months after they opened and continued to play there between Friday and Saturday nights for quite a few years. My Friday night helped me build my reputation as a sought after DJ in Pittsburgh and to this day I miss those nights. All of my friends would come visit and I got to play the best mix of music. There were always random b-boy cyphers in the middle of the night that the crowd embraced. I'm not the only DJ who will praise the Firehouse either. Guys like Bonics, Outtareach and Strobe all had long lasting, successful nights there. Last year, I started my "Sun-Day" parties on the last Sunday of each month in the summer and the deck at Firehouse hosted two of them. They were successful enough to have them again this summer and it just so happened that I scheduled the first one on the last day it was open. We had a great time reminiscing about old times at Firehouse and we made the best out of what would otherwise be a sad day. As I was DJing later into the evening, I realized how many people I had originally met at the Firehouse and how I still talk to the majority of them. A handful of them even showed up and we gave it a proper farewell. Shouts go out to DJ's Red, Underdog, T-1, Outtareach and Digital Dave for coming out to play that day. And a big shout goes to Spencer for creating and maintaining such a great venue all these years. We all look forward to his next business endeavour in the city.

Downtown 36, Youngstown OHIO 7-29-11

Pittsburgh Vs. Cleveland Mixtape Party (CLE edition)

A few weeks ago Digi Dave and I traveled up to Cleveland for the Cleveland edition of our mixtape release. Donkis, Flaco and Kosher did not disapoint. They packed the Barley house on a Wednesday night just like we did in Pittsburgh at Jimmy D's for our release. My night started off with dinner (Chicken & Waffles son!!) w/ the staff of Barley House and the DJs. After that we headed over to the club and partied hard. Once the smoke cleared it was off to get some late night eats at Steve's Hot Dogs then straight over to the homie Ginger Blast's crib for a quick session and some amazing cupcakes that his lady made us (literally, 4am cupcakes). And finally, the night ended on Donkis' couch with a Corona in my hand at 5am. It was quite a night and always great to hang with the Cleveland homies. Thanks again fellas!

Kevin's Surprise 30th in Brooklyn

I got a call from my friend Anna a few months ago and she told me she was planning a surprise 30th birthday party for her fiance Kevin in Brooklyn. Kevin is one of my best friends. We were introduced in college by a mutual friend. Before I get into our recent b-day trip, here's a little back story on how I met Kev. First, let me point out that we both went to a performing arts school where the majority of the students were females and the small amount of male students that did attend school there were gay. Not a big deal but after a few weeks I realized how much I missed my friends from home and I hadn't really met anyone that I had anything in common with. That being said, when my friend Marissa told me I had to meet Kevin I was skeptical. Kevin and his roommate Charles (also a good friend to this day) were having a party in their dorm room one night and Marissa dragged me along. I was pleasantly surprised to walk in and see nothing but Wu-Tang Clan posters hanging from the walls, empty beer cans on the floor and Kevin doing a "wine box stand" (think a keg stand with a $10 box of wine). Now that's college!

Kevin was later introduced to my crew of friends and I his, and a year or so later we were living together in downtown Pittsburgh having the craziest summer of our lives. We lived together for the next 4 years or so until Kevin and Anna moved to Brooklyn to pursue their respective careers. They are both doing great and although I only get to see them a few times a year, its always a blast. I brought a carload of friends up from the Burgh to surprise Kevin and it was awesome. Special thanks to Anna for not forgetting about us :)

Just a few weeks ago, Kevin came back to Pittsburgh for an entire month to work on the new Batman film so we've all been kicking it on his days off.

Industry Mondays at Suite. Jacksonville, Florida 7-11-11

I've been friends with DJ Marvel for a few years now so when he asked me to come guest at his Monday Industry Night at Suite supper club in Jacksonville this past week I was super excited. Unfortunately my flights ended up being a disaster so I didn't get into town until a little late. All good though because Suite was fun as hell. The staff were very nice (shots weren't hard to get lol) and people came out to party! The dancefloor was jumping all night. The next day I got to catch up with Marvel over lunch and talk about DJing and I got to know a little more of his back story which was very cool because I found out we had a lot more in common than I previously realized. We both basically came up in the mid-late 90's hip-hop/underground era. Thanks again to Marvel and Suite for bringing me down and shouts to all the people who came out to party! If you ever get a chance, check out Marvel sometime. Dude is a beast on the cut and an awesome club DJ. Also gotta give a big shout to the band who was on before me who held it down a little longer than expected because I was running late. Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland Mixtape Party (PGH edition)

A few months ago we decided to link up with our DJ homies in Cleveland and put together a Pittsburgh vs. Cleveland mixtape. The tape would feature myself, Digital Dave and Bonics from Pittsburgh and Donkis, Kosher Kuts and Flaco from Cleveland. To celebrate the mixtape release we held a party at our weekly "Tuesday Takeover" party at Jimmy D's. The amount of people who came through to party blew my mind. The bar was actually at capacity at one point before 11pm which is unheard of. Check the pics below and thanks to everyone (much love to all the DJs) who came out to support! Uncle Ray's B-Day

Pause. Uncle Ray is not my real Uncle. He's just a cool ass dude and a great friend that I've known for about a decade now. I've worked with Ray at a few different establishments in town and he's always been very easygoing. I always look forward to catching up with Ray. His girl threw him a surprise birthday party at the new Mad Mex in Shadyside this year and was kind enough to invite me along with a a few other friends and acquaintances. There were some surprises including an awesome dude making custom balloons for everyone and an amazing video of Ray's early years including his stint as an amazing figure skater which blew my mind. Whisper Nightclub, Philadelphia 6-25-11

A few Saturdays ago I got a chance to play at Philly's hottest nightclub, Whisper, with my homie DJ Royale. I had heard so much about Whisper and the impact it's had on the Philly club scene over the last year so I was crazy excited for the chance to get in the booth. Last month I celebrated my 30th birthday with the most important people in my life. My best friends and my girlfriend helped me ring in another year and made it very special for me. Turning 30 also marks 15 years of DJing for me so I was also celebrating my career. Captain Morgan's Birthday w/ Maxim Magazine at Barley House, Cleveland

On Saturday May 14th, my good friend DJ Donkis booked me to play his Saturday night at Barley House in Cleveland for Captain Morgan's birthday party. Maxim magazine was also in the house that night and once again Cleveland came out to party! The spot was packed by 10pm and people were dancing and going crazy the entire night. The Cleveland Browns and the Indians were also in the house going ham in VIP. Tipsy Bar, Columbus Ohio

Back on May 6th, 2011 I made my way up to Columbus, Ohio to rock the Tipsy Bar with my dude DJ Five50. My girl made the trip with me and we got a chance to catch up with some of my old friends Mikey, Krystal & Jenna. Unfortunately after a great night of djing and partying, an unlikely fight broke out and Nicole got caught in the middle. After the brawl, she had to be stretchered out by the paramedics and taken to Ohio State University Hospital's ER where we were pent up for the next 9 hours for stiches and x-rays. Not Fun. A ridiculous end to an otherwise awesome evening but she's doing great now and that's all that matters. Columbus is a very cool city and I look forward to making the trip out there again in the near future. I doubt Nicole will be tagging along anytime soon though lol.

Cleveland

Back on April 8th I made my first ever club appearance in Cleveland, Ohio at the Velvet Dog Nightclub. I wasn't sure what to expect but by the end of the night it was one of the funnest out of town gigs I'd had in a long time. The crowd was very receptive and let me do my thing. Shouts to everyone from Cleveland who came out to party as well as DJ Donkis and DJ Flaco for putting it together! In my short trip out there I also managed to grub on some really good food including the famed restaurant "Melt." Looking forward to my next trip out there.

Redbull 3Style 2011

Earlier this month I made my second appearance in the Pittsburgh edition of the Redbull 3Style DJ battle. Joining me were local favorites (and a few out of town friends), Digital Dave, Midas, Pete Butta, Petey C, Zimmie, New York Giant & B-Tips. All very talented DJ's and undoubtedly a great lineup for a party rocking battle. I worked hard on my set this year but unfortunately didn't manage to place in the top 3. Much respect and shouts to Midas (3rd), Zimmie (2nd) and this year's winner, Petey C who brought his skills as well as his following to the table that night. I wish him the best of luck in Washington D.C. tomorrow night where he'll be going up against DJ's from NYC, Boston and DC in the regional battle. I'll be making the trip down with Midas to show my full support. The other high point of the night was meeting and finally hearing DJ P live. He's one of the DJ's I've admired for many years that I've never had the pleasure of seeing live. He rocked an all vinyl set at the party which these days is a rare treat. Kool Herc Tribute/Benefit at Elixir (3-28-11)

Pittsburgh DJ's came together late last month to honor the father of hip hop, DJ Kool Herc and to raise money for his recent medical bills at Elixir in the Southside. Monday nights are not an easy night to throw an event in the Burgh but we still managed to bring people out and raise some funds. I also got a chance to dig through my crates at home and put together an all vinyl set for the night which was really fun. Shouts to all the DJ's involved (Jan, Strobe, Hypnotiza, Bamboo, Source, Underdog, J-Spin, Super Scott, Mech) and Digital Dave for putting it all together.

Bonics & I at S BAR before Wiz's 2011 tour

Bonics was in town for a couple days before he left for the remainder of 2011 to travel all over the globe with Wiz Khalifa so I asked him to join me on the decks at S BAR. Friday nights are always great but Bonics put it over the top and drew in a ton of people that wanted to say goodbye before he left. Crazy to think that a year ago, we were having talks about him embarking on this new chapter of his DJ life and now just in the past few weeks I've seen him on Letterman, BET, MTV and he just rocked for 80,000 people at Coachella. Congrats to my good friend and one of the most talented DJ's I know. You deserve it.

Lion's Den at PSU w/ New York Giant (3-24-11)

The big man, New York Giant brought me back up to Penn State last month for a guest set at the Lion's Den. Always a good time up there. Luckily this time I paced myself with the Jameson! (They call Tuesdays, "Ruthless" Tuesdays at PSU because they go so hard on the whiskey lol) As always I had an incredibly fun (and relatively sober) night with the boys. 412 Mixtape Release

DJ Kurve approached me along with DJ's Petey C and McFly about producing the "412" mixtape in early 2011. The premise would be 4 DJ's, 1 Mix, 2 turntables. We knocked it out and held the cd release at Jimmy D's on a Thursday night in February. You can peep the mix here. "Therapy" Thursdays at the Cellar WVU (3-10-11)

DJ Rambo and promoter Dean Kenny brought me down to play their weekly Electro House night at the Cellar at West Virginia University a few weeks ago and it was nuts. It was awesome to play nothing but uptempo bangers all night and watch college kids go insane. Shouts to Rambo, Dean, Ples and all the other cool cats I met that night. Thanks again for a great night fellas and I'm looking forward to making my way down there next semester as well.

McNugget CD Release Party

McFly and I began working on our "McNugget" mixtape in December of 2009 and didn't wrap the project up until fall of 2010. Our goal was to make the "hardest" mix of music we could possibly come up with and feature tons of remix work through various genres. We threw the release party at the Firehouse Lounge and had a great crowd show up to cop the mix and hear us perform together on four turntables. Vinny and I took a trip out to Cleveland a few months ago to check out the Wiz Khalifa show at the House of Blues and to support my brother DJ Bonics. Joell Ortiz had a great opening set and Wiz shut the place down. Also met up with DJ Donkis and DJ Pana and went out on the town afterwards for a few drinks.

This past winter my good friend DJ Bonics came home from tour with famed Pittsburgh emcee Wiz Khalifa and suffered a heart attack at the age of 30. With no healthcare, he was facing some serious medical bills. Myself along with DJ Zimmie and DJ Strobe orchestrated a benefit on his behalf to help cover costs and the city of Pittsburgh came out to show their love. Thank you to everyone who came out, offered a raffle prize and donated. Unfortunately I was running around like a maniac that night so I didn't get too many pics. If any more pop up, I'll be sure to post them.

Steeler Games at STAGE AE

Last fall I was contacted by the people over at the brand spankin' new STAGE AE to help out with the home Steeler Games this past football season. They asked me to play some jams for the ridiculous amounts of people that flood to the North Shore every Sunday. Last fall, my girl and I took a quick trip up to NYC for a few days and had a blast. It was a nice getaway with her before I left to go DJ on a cruise ship for a month. We stayed at the Hotel on Rivington (amazing views), visited the Empire State building, caught an improv show at the U.C.B., and partied at DJ mOma and DJ Stimulus' famed Monday night party "Good Spot" (which coincidentally ended up being their last night there). While we were there I caught up with the homies, DJ Rok One, DJ Eleven and Sean Perry as well. Tons of pics below.

Nesia Beatz "Hey Girl"

Last year, well known Pittsburgh hip-hop producer Nesia Beatz reached out to me and DJ McFly through twitter to add some finishing touches to a song he had created called "Hey Girl." The song was already upbeat and fun so we just basically flipped the production around a little, changed the parts and made it a little more club friendly from a DJ perspective. It was a great look and Nesia also kept us in mind when he went on to create the video for the track. Last Labor Day we brought the homie DJ Jay-E out from St. Louis to rock a video set at S BAR. Jay is well known for his production work with Nelly (he's the man behind MAJOR jams like "Country Grammar," "E.I." and "Ride Wit Me.") and is also super nice on the decks. I had the pleasure of meeting Jay in St. Louis earlier last year and dude was cool enough to show me and my boys his city and even treat us to lunch. After seeing him rock a video set while I was out there, I had to return the favor and show him Pittsburgh for his first time. Unfortunately we had some issues hooking up equipment for his video set and that stunted his trip a little but I managed to sneak a few pictures in, including the famed Primanti's sandwich shot. 2010 Pittsburgh Steelers Fashion Show

Last year I had the opportunity to rock for the annual Pittsburgh Steelers Fashion Show at Heinz Field. Shouts to Alana Bly for the opportunity and for hooking me up with gear and tickets for my parents to check out the show. My father is a die hard Steeler fan so it was great to have him there.

I've been slacking quite a bit on the blogging tip. You can tell from the dates and the last time I posted that I've been less than enthusiastic about documenting my experiences for the past few months. Not sure why to be honest. Maybe the winter blues? Unfortunately the winter is presumably the best time to blog because I spent the majority of my days inside of my house. Regardless, there's been a couple people I've run into recently who asked me why I haven't been posting and that really opened up my eyes. I started this blog for myself, to help me remember good times and find it amazing that people were taking a minute out of their day to keep up with what I had going on. Therefore I decided to get my shit together and put up some cool pics and and noteworthy stuff from the end of last year up until now. Hope you enjoy and thanks to everyone who gave me the spunk to start posting again.

Here's all of the pics from my awesome experience on the cruise last November. I spent 3 weeks DJing on the Norwegian Jewel, sailing from New York to Florida to the Bahamas and back every week. I made some great new friends during that trip and met some very talented people. Shouts to Kiley, Alex, Daniel, Jamison and Cecily from the 2nd City Comedy crew, my homie Myke and the rest of the people I got a chance to kick it with during that month.

Portland (2010-Part 2)

Last week I flew across the country to Portland to make my second appearance at Leigh Feldman's notorious party "Massive" at the Crown Room w/ DJ Doc Adam. While I was there I also played two guest spots at one of the newer upscale lounges in town, Couture. Wednesday night I joined DJ Gigahurtz and DJ Paradox on the wheels at Couture for their weekly Service Industry Night party and they asked be back Thursday night to play Couture's weekly house and dance music night w/ ComputerFam. This visit was much different from my last trip to Portland because I had the opportunity to hang for a few more days and take in more of the city and the local scene, not to mention spend time with all my homies and make some new ones in between time. Good food, good beer, good parties, good people. Portland = good times. Big shouts to Leigh, Sara, Doc Adam, Kenny Fresh, DJ Gigahurtz, Mark from Couture, DJ Paradox, Lamontae Marketing, JamaalB, Huy, DJ Nature, Chris O'Brien & everyone else I had the pleasure of kicking it with. Penn State University (5-11-10)

So my homies Pete Butta and the New York Giant invited me up to play at the Lion's Den in Penn State last night and I couldn't resist. I couldn't find anyone to make a last minute trip east with me so I rolled solo and I'm glad I made the trip. I got in a little late, grabbed some food with Pete and made my way to the bar where Giant was already handling biz in a major way. The spot was packed when I jumped on around midnight and drinks were flowing heavy. It's senior week this entire week which means it's the last chance for the seniors to get it in before graduation. Pete and the crew call Tuesdays ''Ruthless Tuesdays'' and after the amount of Jameson I consumed, I fully understand the name. Thank you for a great night out of town and for the hospitality my dudes.

Down and Derby St. Louis (5.7 & 5.8-2010)

Down and Derby made its way to the midwest for the first time this past weekend and invaded St. Louis. The party was held at Home Nightclub inside the Ameristar casino & hotel. Friday night I played with DJ Costik who is a former 2 time ITF scratch champ and Saturday night I played with DJ Jay-E who was also Nelly's original producer (craziest story ever). Both are extremely talented DJ's and hold it down major in the video DJ game as well. Jay-E was also kind enough to show us around the Lou on Saturday afternoon. After we grabbed some BBQ we went shopping, record digging and he showed us the sites including the largest graffiti wall i've ever witnessed and the famous Arch. Check out the pics below..

Portland (4-24 to 4-26-2010)

This past Saturday I flew to Portland for my first time ever to play one of the biggest parties in the city, "MASSIVE" at the Crown Room. My friend Leigh started the party and has brought in a handful of dope talent over the last 18 months so I was honored to be on the bill. The party was absolutely ridiculous. Completely packed by 11pm and I got to play a ton of fresh records. The crowd was amazing and stayed involved and responsive throughout my entire 3 hour set. Big shouts to DJ Doc Adam on the opening set and Ronin who MC'd the whole night and kept the crowd moving with me.

Portland is a really dope city and I got to check out a lot of cool stuff while I was in town as well. Record stores, boutiques and great food were all on my to do list while I was there and Leigh and his girl Sarah did not disappoint! Another thing that really stood out while I was there was how friendly the people were. I was a little dumbfounded on how outgoing everyone was and I met a ton of great people who were doing their thing and following their dreams. Major shouts to Leigh and Sarah as well as everyone else I met when I was in town. I hope to see you again soon!

I flew home yesterday and after spending what seemed an entire day on a plane, I went straight down to Ibiza in the Southside and played house music with Bonics. I also recorded the set and the link to download it is below.

Pitt Vs. Philly (Philly Edition) 4-18-10

This past Sunday, myself, McFly, JSpin and Kurve jumped in the car and headed out to Philly for the 2nd installment of our Pitt Vs. Philly parties. Needless to say it was a great trip and a great party. Great to catch up with the Philly legend DJ Sat-One and see him do his thing. Also great to see Rita and make some new friends in the mix as well.

L.A. Down & Derby + Coachella! 4-14 to 4-17-10

Last week I flew out to L.A. with my brother from another, Vinny to post up for a few days & play Down & Derby in Echo Park. The party popped off and was the first time I saw the roller skating party turn into a full blown dance party. Yelle DJ's did a special performance and the crowd was loving every minute of it. The next day we jumped in Richard's whip and headed to Palm Springs for Coachella where the famous music festival was also hosting a Down and Derby party on site! The trip was great and it was awesome to catch up with homies from all over the map including my guys DJ Goldfingers, DJ Fashen, DJ SHR3D, DJ Rok One, J Roberts, Troy and Miss Pink Jody.

The night was crazy and all the DJ's did their thing. Unfortunately DJ Sat-One couldn't make it but we would catch up with him the following week in Philly. Redbull Thre3style Pittsburgh!

A few weeks ago I competed in the Redbull Thre3style DJ Battle in Pittsburgh and took 2nd place behind my homie and mentor DJ Bonics.
