DJ Fashen @ S BAR 6-19-09
Fashen still holds the title as my favorite DJ. Dude can play just about anything imaginable and makes it look easy. From Hip-Hop and Electro to Top 40, Downtempo House, Soul, 80's and everywhere else in between, he's just a beast. Period, the end. Not to mention his scratches and blends during his live sets are the cleanest I've ever heard in my life. Seems like just yesterday that I was mad at Fashen for winning the ''Next on the Decks'' DJ competition which I had also entered a few years ago. That is, until I did my homework and found out about his rich DJ history and heard him live for myself. Trust me, he is on another level and I'm far from being a dick rider. Nothing wrong with showing some love now and then. Fashen inspires me to keep working hard. If you're a DJ, make it a priority to hear him live! We were clowning around for a minute the other night as you can see in this video but don't get it twisted...it was a two hour murder session at S BAR.
Check out DJ Fashen's live set from this past Sunday (6-21-09) at the legendary DO OVER party in L.A.

Palms Pool 6-12-09
It's always great to get out of town for a few days. This past Thursday I departed for Vegas with Aaron and Vinny for a fun filled work/play weekend. I was booked to play at the Palms Pool at the Palms Hotel & Casino for their weekly "Ditch" Fridays party. This particular Friday I was the opener for the legendary Stretch Armstrong. This was a special gig for me because when I was growing up in the late 90's I was obsessed with indie hip-hop and the "Stretch and Bobbito" show was a very big deal. If you don't know the history behind Stretch, take a second and google him. Stretch focuses more on Electro music nowadays but it was an absolute honor to be on the bill with him and to chat with him about music and gigs. Did I mention the DJ Booth was solar powered. Shouts to my homie Richard from 944 mag out in Vegas. He's been looking out for me a ton and I owe him big. Thanks for putting me on and holler at your boy Rich! Also shouts to Mel from the N9NE Group. After the gig I made my way inside the casino to catch the end of game 7 and the Penguins win! Major!
After the Palms I linked up with hometown hero Bonics and we got it in big. The following day he hooked up a gig at Trader Vic's at Planet Hollywood on the strip. Really dope spot. Shouts to DJ D Double and his DJ Crew as well!!
After Vic's, we packed up our stuff and made our way to Downtown Vegas for the monthly Down and Derby at Beauty Bar. Great times all around. Bonics layed it down at the Derby playing an extremely eclectic set unlike any I've heard at previous derby's. Got to chill with the homies DJ Shred and DJ OB One as well as Brandon, Chris and Rich.
Stole some pics from the Spy On Vegas website as well...
Woke up on Sunday, grabbed some food, checked out the Undefeated and Stussy shops and then headed over to Rehab at Hard Rock. OB One and Five were playing and OB hooked it up. No cover, skipped the line and headed into that madness. Fist pumping galore just as he warned me the night before haha! Tried to get my grown man tan on but as usual that didn't really work.
After the pool we went straight back to Brandon's house (still crunk), freshened up (still crunk) and then headed out Lavo (DJ Vice spinning), Playboy Club (DJ Graham Funke spinning) and Body English (DJ Five spinning). Big shouts to Shred for hanging out that night and carting us around town. I was completely drunk and exhausted by the time we got to Body English and after Five gave us a handful of drink tickets for Patron shots, I passed out in the booth for a couple minutes haha! Aaron captured the moment....great ending to our last night in town but let's just say the plane ride home the next morning wasn't a good one.
