LOVE SONGS

This Friday, February 13th 2009, I'll be releasing my latest mixtape entitled LOVE SONGS. Most mixes that I've released to the public over my career have been party/club style mixtapes that help to persuade people to my club gigs or may help me get new gigs.  LOVE SONGS is a little different just for the fact that it's a pretty laid back.

You can download Love Songs for free HERE.

LOVE SONGS is a relatively chill compilation of  33 quality hip-hop songs that all happen to have the word LOVE in their respective titles.  I recorded the mix live in late January.  I know that the word love has been symbolized in mixtapes before but I felt a need to put out this mix because I genuinely love all of the songs on here and I think it shows the range of the word love in hip-hop.  I basically made this mix for myself but as I've been promoting it,  I've realized how many people are into the same shit as me.  I've referred to myself as a 'hip-hop nerd' in past interviews and this mix will give you some insight into that.

I originally got the idea almost two years ago when I was out of town for work.  In the summer of 2007 I took on a gig in central Pennsylvania teaching troubled youth about hip-hop culture.  I taught a group of really great kids who came from unfortunate circumstances about the history of hip-hop as well as all of the elements it encompasses.  Djing, B-Boying, Emceeing, & Graffiti.  I would teach for a few hours a day and hang out with the kids in their off time but in between all of this, there was absolutely nothing to do in the area.  I took a lot of music with me and while driving around one day listening to music (one of my favorite past-times) I decided that I needed to compile this mix.

It's been a long time coming but this Friday the 13th at SHOP412 in the Southside of Pittsburgh (2628 East Carson St.), I'll be releasing the mix for free to anyone who RSVP's for the event.  It's from 7pm until 10pm with the after party directly following @ S BAR (1713 East Carson St.).  You can send an email RSVP with full names to RSVP@DJNUGGET.COM.  There will be complimentary drinks and mixtapes for everyone through the door.

Big shouts to Aaron & Christian at SHOPFOURONETWO.BLOGSPOT.COM for jumping on this project and to Dave Clarty at OHMYISFLY.BLOGSPOT.COM for hooking up the ill design.

Check out the flicks from the Love Songs Release Party at shop412.

My good friend and extremely talented photographer Evan Sanders also stopped through to shoot some flicks for the event.
